Palm Kernel Shell

High calorific value and low ash content, making it highly efficient for power generation and industrial manufacturing.

Overview

High calorific value and low ash content, making it highly efficient for power generation and industrial manufacturing.

Palm kernel shell is the hard endocarp left after the kernel is removed at the mill. It is the workhorse of Indonesian biomass export: dense, naturally low in moisture, and stable in storage. Because it arrives as a by-product of an existing industry, supply scales with palm oil production rather than competing with food or timber.

Typical applications

  • Co-firing in coal power plants
  • Industrial steam boilers
  • Cement and lime kilns
  • Activated carbon feedstock
